Maternity Reflexology
Reflexology has an excellent reputation in the area of Maternity Reflexology. I have completed, and benefit in my practice, from studying the world renowned Suzanne Enzer's Maternity Reflexology course which covers all aspects of women's reproductive health from early teenage years through to conception, pregnancy, post natal and menopausal years. I strive to keep up to date with current thinking within this area and gaining further skills. In addition I have also attended many specialist training sessions on the subject of Women's Health and the different phases throughout her lifetime. Deciding to specialise in this area has resulted in a solid, comprehensive understanding of the demands on women's health and the positive steps needed to help support them during these times.
Women obviously go through different phases of their hormonal life and, hopefully, we all just adapt with no problems. Sometimes if the going gets tough it often means we have to seek advice and adapt our lifestyle, spending a little bit more time looking after ourselves. This is often when Maternity Reflexology is able to support these times of change. I have been practising for many years now and as a consequence have seen many women through conception and pregnancy and then again at the peri-menopausal stage!
Reflexology is a natural therapy using the subtle energies of the feet to create balance and harmony thus helping us to attain and maintain a state of good health.
Research carried out in 1993/1994 by consultant obstetrician Dr Gowri Motha showed that first time pregnant mums who received at least nine maternity reflexology treatments during their pregnancy, had far shorter birthing times than those who did not have reflexology. On average their labour lasted 5-6 hours and they required significantly less pain relief too. (Dr Gowri Motha and Dr Jane McGrath)
